Entry to the first turn is made by rotating on the left toe pushing the hammer out to the left as wide as possible, maximizing the radius of orbit.
Coaching Points
The first turn on the toe is done so that the left knee can be pushed further to the left increasing the radius further. Subsequent turns are done heel to toe.
